CONCLUSION OF THE SUBJECT

Hello readers,

I'm here again for the last time because the term ends. More tan three months it's difficult to resume in just one post of the blog because there are a lot of interesting activities that we have done that for sure will be very important for the future.

Some of the most imporant values that I have learnt of this subject is that we have to lose the fear for talk in public, wear fancy dress, use different registers of the voice... We also achieve other goals like be able to create activity for students of Primary Education (related with CLIL) in which we had to show a tale in a funny way trying to trasmit the knwoledge through the WORKSHOPS.

I would like to highlight too the possibility to comment things that maybe in class we can't commment for the time or because we don't find the moment to tell our points of view. Anyway I have read lots of interesting blogs about educational topics related with education. For that reason I decided to create a post related with the video of Ken Robinson that I have seen in my own that deals with the problem of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). I told the story of my older brother who suffered of this disorder and the teacher told him that he had to be medicated. However my parents decided not to do it and today he can proudly say that he is an engineer of telecommunications.

The possibility of sharing ideas have allowed us to grow as a future teachers because our job will consist not only in teach things, we have to learn also to listen what other people have to say because sometimes we can be wrong and other people can have the key for help us in this difficult process of TEACHING.

The overall impresión of this blog activity is quite good and probably in the highest courses of primary education we can do activities like that,

POETRY BOOK

Hi again readers, here I am to write you about a work that we did last week in which we had to develop our creativity in order to créate FOUR POEMS.

The poems that we had to do were like:

- List of Poems: they are started by writing a list of things. What makes them literacy is to think creatively and organise the list in an interesting way. (Raquel's ppt said). From my point of view a List of Poems is like a brain storming ordenated, it means that the list that you previously have done you put in the right order trying to be creative.

Riddle Poem:This type of poems are a fantastic opportunity to work on logical thinking and foster high order thinking skills. The idea is that we are going to look at the world from a new perspective, and the readers should guess what we are referring to. (Raquel's ppt said). For me this kind of poem consist on enter in the mind of other people/animal/objects. From this strange perspective the creativy is open to write about common daily things.

Haiku: They are a Japanese poetic form. It is condensed and it follows some rules:
Use three lines of up 17 syllables, traditionally 5-7-5 form (Raquel's ppt said). It is related to a single image (usually nature or the seasons). From my point of view it is a poem that consist on write from an ideal perspective of enviroment.

Letter Poem: They are started by writing a letter. The original and creative work comes from choosing an innovative perspective (Raquel's ppt said). This poem consists on send a letter to someone using the poetry for transmit in a creative way one feeling or fact.

Frozen Frames

This days in class we have done some of scenes. This task consist on the representation of different scenes of movies or books in which the students are characters of the movies.

An illustrative example of this activity is the video that I record in class of a frozen frames from my partners:

From my point of view this activity it's very useful because the students can improve different skills like:

- Bodily Kinesthetic intelligence: they have to move and play according with the model that they have to interpretate.

- Previous Knowledge: the students have to put in practice all that they know for the scene

- Interpretative skills: the children lose the fear to be in front of the class (embarrased situations) when they do this kind of activities

- Other students that are not playing can learn about the other students how to play. Moreover the students can learn not only from books, also from movies or other technological support like a movie throught the smartboard

-Verbal Linguistic: they have to express what's in their mind and to understand other people (interpersonal intelligence)

In conclusión this activite is an active activity because the children don't learn in a passive way sitting down in the chairs waiting that the teacher tell them what they have to do.

How a decision could change the educational future?

I would like to talk about a close experience that I know about the importance of the decisión of a teacher that can change the life of a student.

His name was Victor and to locate the place of the story we must start in 1991 the student was 7 years old, all the teachers said that this boy had ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).

The student was in his fourth course of primary education an his attitude was very bad according with some reports of the counselor: he couldn't stop in the chair, while his partner were doing the homework he was drawing squares and strange figures with embossed.

The teacher was always calling to the mother of the student to tell her that this attitude must change or the student would be punished with extrawork or not allowed to go to the trip at the end of the term. It doesn't matter that the parents of the student quarrel Victor every day waiting for a change but all the fridays the teacher had to call again.

One day the psychologist of the school decide to interview the student. During an hour they were talking about what was the problem of the poor marks. At the end of the interview the psychologist said the student Victor wait here just a minute because I'm going to talk with your mother about you.

The psychologist closed the door and told the mother: your children doesn't have any attention deficit, the problem is that he is probably more clever than the average of the class for that reason he is boring at class.

The psychologist could continue with the idea of attention deficit and he could prescribe some medicines for be relax at class. However he advice the parent to change the school and the parents change Victor of school and he arrive to a school in which the average of the students was higher.

He started to study like a normal boy obtaining at the end of his studies a excellence award. Nowadays two years ago he ended telecommunications engineering with very good marks.

The conclusión is that we (as a teachers) can change the life of the students just with a simple decision without thinking that we can exploit all the potential of the student. I now understand very well the decision, because the student was my old brother and he is one of the most clever persons that I know, despite of be the worst student.

I find a video of SIR Ken Robinson in which something similar happens to a important dancer in which the teacher could break her creativity with a simple medicine to be relax in class.

Story Telling in Class

During this last days we have been preparing a Story Telling in class, but What Story Telling really mean for me?

In my opinión is the mixed of active learning and dynamic teaching with the final aim to create a story in which if you couldn't understant the language of the story you could know attending at the singal of the autor what he or she talking about. In other words it means that tell a story with lot of gestures and movements to help the students to participate in the story.

A good example of this story telling is the video that we have seen in class

Starting With Jolly Phonics

I would like to start this blog with a good example of Jolly Phonics that we have seen in class.

I strongly believe that Jolly Phonics help a lot the students to relate the meaning of the words with an image just with the use of a simple song.
During the last practicum periods I could check that students remember better things that they have learnt with a song than to study from a book.

Children also learn how to pronounce and articulate in the right way so they will never forget it improving in every class they're list of vocabulary.
